Utah Scottish Festival
The Utah Scottish Festival and Highland Games is a perennial tradition in Utah. Five percent of Utahns claim Scottish ancestry, partly a vestige of the Scotch-Irish contingent of the early Mormon pioneers but eventually subsumed by the general westward trek of settlers from the heavy concentration of Scotch-Irish families in the Carolinas and Southeast American coast. Organized by the Utah Scottish Association, the 3-day games involve feats of strength, heraldry, crafts, dance, and non-stop pipe and drum contests.
