2017 Pioneer Day

Utah's Pioneer Day commemorates the anniversary of the Mormon Pioneers' arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, on July 24th, 1847.  The holiday is an only-in-Utah event, with the state's largest parade (the images below), rodeo, and numerous commemorative events.  Ostensibly not a religious holiday, Pioneer Day is almost exclusively subsidized by the LDS church and a de facto celebration of Mormon culture in America.  In recent years, parade participants have included entries from other faiths and cultures, reflecting the growing demographic diversity of the Salt Lake Valley.
