Taylorsville Dayzz Festival
Taylorsville, Utah, a southwestern suburb of Salt Lake City, steps out of the shadow of its larger neighbor at the annual Taylorsville Dayzz festival, celebrating the character of this small town populated by settlers in 1849 but only officially founded in 1995. John Bennion, patriarch of the first pioneer family to settle in the area, said of the future Taylorsville, "If peace dwells upon this earth it is here and here are the happiest and most prosperous people in the world, enjoying free soil, pure air, liberty, [and] liberty to worship our God just as we please." Few statements better capture the American ideal.
With a parade, crafts, car shows, a carnival, fireworks, and countless tribute bands, the festival is a paragon of summer events in small western towns.
